Top Ten Tuesday: Bingeworthy TV Shows

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Hello and welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! This week’s is a bit different as we are taking a little detour from books and chatting about bingeworthy TV shows or movies. So here are my top ten most bingeworthy tv shows, if you’ve not watched them yet I do highly recommend them all!

1. The Affair

Why:

This is one of my favourite shows to watch, it follows two people who, as the title indicates, have an affair. The twist with this show is you see the same events play out from two different perspectives and it is so fascinating watching how people reinvent and see things in completely different ways. It’s a brilliant programme that is well acted throughout – plus it has Joshua Jackson (Pacey in Dawson’s Creek) in it, who I love!

2. Unreal

Why:

I came across this show on Amazon prime by accident and then became kind of addicted to it. It’s a look behind the scenes at a fictitious dating show like The Bachelor and how manipulative the producers can get. I’ve never watched The Bachelor but I do find the psychology behind reality shows interesting and this show is very compelling. The characters are basically all awful people but still so addictive to watch.

3. Anne with an E

Why:

I read Anne of Green Gables as a child but had kind of forgotten about it and when I heard about this show I decided to give it a try. I ended up binge watching it over a few days and absolutely LOVED it. There is something so amazing in returning to a childhood favourite in a different format and this production is so well done. The girl playing Anne is perfectly cast in my opinion as are the rest of the characters, plus it’s just a beautiful, nostalgic story!

4. Greys Anatomy

Why:

I’m guessing you’ve probably heard of Grey’s Anatomy as it has been around for 14 seasons but if you haven’t watched it then I seriously urge you to! It’s so addictive and the characters are great to watch. Sometimes it annoys me for various reasons but I still watch and love it. The medical stuff is interesting and the stories are often heartbreaking. It’s definitely a bingeworthy show!

5. Riverdale

Why:

Honestly I think Riverdale is frankly a bit insane most of the time and highly melodramatic but there is still something so addictive about it. It makes me giggle all the way through at how totally far fetched it all is and how bizarre some storylines are. It is really fun to watch because of it’s craziness so if you’re looking for something you will enjoy and not take too seriously then I can highly recommend it.

6. The Missing

Why:

The Missing has had only two series with almost completely different casts apart from one French detective, Julien Baptiste, who investigates the cases involved. The stories involve missing children and are supremely well produced and acted. It’s pretty hard hitting and upsetting stuff so if you’re looking for something light-hearted this isn’t it but it is a phenomenal crime series.

7. The Bold Type

Why:

This is a really fun show I came across on Amazon prime. It follows three young women who work at a women’s magazine called Scarlet. It’s got great feminist themes and although it can sometimes feel a little too try hard or cheesy, I really enjoyed watching both seasons that have been released so far. It’s a really enjoyable and mostly light hearted show, plus I really like the friendship between the three main women.

8. Project Runway

Why:

I’ve recently become a bit obsessed with Project Runway since some of the seasons became available on the UK Netflix. If you’re interested in fashion at all then it’s a really great show to watch. It’s amazing to see what the amateur designers can create within the themes and constraints they are given and Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn are fantastic!

9. Big Little Lies

Why:

I haven’t read the Liane Moriarty book this series is based on but after watching it I definitely want to. This is a fantastic series with a great cast and story. I will basically watch anything with Reese Witherspoon because I love her but Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley are terrific in this too. It’s a fabulous mystery to follow with absolutely amazing settings and music. I can highly recommend it.

10. The Vampire Diaries

Why:

The Vampire Diaries is an old favourite of mine and although I think it kind of lost it’s way a bit in later seasons, it is still definitely worth watching. I remember originally liking it because it felt like something different and didn’t shy away from the more gritty and violent side of things. I liked the cast a lot and the story was great. As I say, I do think it declined in quality after five or so seasons but I still have a place in my heart for it!

Well there you have it – my top ten most bingeworthy TV shows! I’d love to chat in the comments, whether you agree with my choices or not ? Or what tv shows and movies you love! And please feel free to link to your own Top Ten Tuesday posts!

Until next time xxx

I binged Anne with an ‘E’ last Sunday, and I barely even noticed how much time was passing! I also binge Grey’s about a half a season at a time, but months apart when I just get the urge 🙂 And I’m currently watching/bingeing Riverdale. You’re so right, it’s completely ridiculous but so entertaining to watch!

Great article! Being the TV Nerd that I am, I have watched most of the series you mentioned in your article, LoL.

Currently, watching the latest season of The Affair. Great season, still one of my favorite series.

I love Riverdale! Totally agree, it’s ridiculous but still a great show. I thought the Season One story lines were a bit better than Season Two’s. I chalked that up to Season Two having twice as many episodes as the first.

The Bold Type is a constant favorite of mine. I recently wrote an article on my blog about my fave summer shows of 2018, and of course it got a spot cause it’s just such an amazing show! Glad you like it too!

I loved Big Little Lies! It was my favorite show by far of 2017. I read the book first and then watched the series. Definitely an amazing adaptation. Can’t wait for Season Two!

Thank you so much! The Affair is definitely one of my favourites too – it’s so well acted and clever!
I agree that Riverdale had better storylines in season one but the craziness is so addictive – I can’t stop watching it 🤣
I will definitely check out the post about your favourite summer shows! The Bold Type is so great – I find it really uplifting and love the characters! And I really need to read the book of Big Little Lies because I loved the show! I can’t wait for season 2 either! Thanks for commenting! 💖

I am one episode away from The Affair’s season finale. It was pretty unavoidable not hearing about that major spoiler from this season, but I was still surprised when I saw that episode.

Totally agree about Riverdale. You just gotta embrace the ridiculousness of it, LoL.

I wonder when the premiere date for Big Little Lies will come out already, I can’t wait! LoL.

Thanks so much for visiting my site =).

I know – I found out the spoiler before watching too but like you I was still shocked – it’s been a great season! I think the next season is the final one so I’m interested to see where it goes.
I have no idea when Big Little Lies returns but hopefully it will be soon! 💛

It literally was the most unavoidable spoiler, it was like everywhere. I always try to avoid spoilers for shows I’m behind on and usually it’s possible, but not this time. Yeah, next season is the last one. It sounds like it was less about the story and show and more like salary issues as far as Ruth Wilson deciding to leave the show. Which is unfortunate cause she was so good on the show.
