THE DARKNESS FROM HIS PAST WILL FINALLY COME TO LIGHT

The death of DS Tyler’s father irrevocably changed his life. As a child, he believed Richard had killed himself but, as the years have passed, Tyler has grown convinced he was murdered.

When a cold case lands on Tyler’s desk, there’s nothing immediately notable about it, apart from the link it has to his father. Richard was investigating the same case shortly before he died.

Finally, Tyler has a tangible link to the past, one that could give him the answers he has been looking for. And while there are dangerous people who will do anything to keep him quiet, he knows he has to keep digging.

Because you’d risk anything for your family – even your life.

Review:

I’ve really enjoyed both previous novels in the excellent DS Adam Tyler and this third outing is just as compelling and intense – I loved it! Cold Reckoning ties up a couple of threads that have been present since the beginning of the series, namely the mystery of the truth of what happened to Tyler’s deceased police detective father. Did he really end his life or is the truth far more complicated and shocking, as Tyler has come to believe. Cold Reckoning finally delivers the answers to this whilst also intertwining several other narratives such as a long cold case and the disappearance of Tyler’s godmother and boss.

Tyler is such a compelling character, he’s layered and often incredibly conflicted yet determined to do the right thing – this makes for a fascinating story and I feel like even three books in, there is still so much more to learn about him. I also love his protégé of sorts, Mina, who is truly coming into her own as a detective and of course Jim Doggett, Tyler’s partner in finding out what really happened to his father, and an intriguing character himself. Cold Reckoning is tense, complex, smart and thrilling piece of crime fiction and I am very much looking forward to diving into the next instalment in this great series!
