Review:
I love a dysfunctional family drama, especially when that drama involves extreme wealth and a murder, so The Inheritance sounded right up my street, and I can absolutely say it totally delivered on its promise. I was gripped by this group of family members all hiding things and all vying for the one thing that causes more discord than anything else – money. The locked in setting of a secluded and isolated Scottish island works perfectly for the story, giving the whole thing a real sense of atmosphere and tension. The characters, including the three grown children of patriarch Raj and matriarch Shalini, and outsider Zoe, son Aseem’s influencer wife, are all incredibly compelling, if not all particularly, or indeed at all, likeable. The Inheritance is an immensely addictive read from beginning to end with the twists coming right until the turn of the last page. It is a slick, intelligent and elegant thriller that is honestly impossible to look away from. There are plenty of unexpected twists and turns that have the reader on the edge of their seat, unable to guess exactly which direction things are going to take for the glamorous, powerful, yet ultimately insufferable Agarwal family. I was utterly hooked by this fabulous and compulsive story. This was my first read from Trisha Sakhlecha but it definitely won’t be my last. The Inheritance is not to be missed for anyone who enjoys a twisty and twisted family implosion. Highly recommend.
