Detective Robert Hunter of the LAPD’s Homicide Special Section receives an anonymous call asking him to go to a specific web address – a private broadcast. Hunter logs on and a horrific show devised for his eyes only immediately begins.
The LAPD, together with the FBI, use everything at their disposal to electronically trace the transmission down, but this killer is no amateur, and he has covered his tracks from start to finish. And before Hunter and his partner Garcia are even able to get their investigation going, Hunter receives a new phone call. A new website address. A new victim. But this time the killer has upgraded his game so that anyone can take part . . .
Review:
All of the books in this series that Iโve read so far have been ๐ฆ๐น๐ต๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ญ๐บ gruesome at times but I have to say, I think this one freaked me out the most so far. I had to put the book down a few times as it was going to give me nightmares! Iโm slightly terrified that Chris Carter is able to come up with such horribly unhinged methods of evil for his killers in this series. If, however, you are not terribly squeamish then One by One is an intense, fast paced and heart-pounding read which I got through pretty speedily because of the page-turning drama and intensity of the story. In a new twist, the case in One by One got quite personal for Hunter and Garcia at times, which upped the already high stakes considerably and added even more nail-biting tension than already present, which is saying something. If you like your crime books on the terrifyingly violent and addictive side then I would definitely recommend One by One, and this series in general.
