Summary:
Seven days after being abducted, the body of a twenty-year-old woman is found on a green patch of grass by the Los Angeles International Airport. She has been left with her limbs stretched out and spread apart, placing her in a five-point human star.
The autopsy reveals that she had been murdered in a most terrible way. But the surprises don’t end there.
Detective Robert Hunter, who leads LAPD’s Special Section, Ultra Violent Unit, is assigned the case. But almost immediately a second body turns up. Hunter knows he has to be quick.
Surrounded by new challenges as every day passes, Detective Hunter finds himself chasing a monster. A predator whose past hides a terrible secret, whose desire to hurt people and thirst for murder can never be quenched – for he is DEATH.
Review:
This was another super dark and propulsive thriller in the Robert Hunter series. After the slightly different tone in An Evil Mind, which I loved, we are back to the usual setup of Hunter and Garcia hunting a truly terrifying villain and it was as gripping and brutal as ever. I don’t want to give much away because this one has some quite intriguing twists in terms of structure and character which I thought worked well and I don’t want to spoil that! I will say that I found certain parts of I Am Death particularly upsetting, and I am quite used to reading dark books so do be careful and heed trigger warnings if you feel it may be too much for you. However, despite how sad and horrified it made me feel at times it is very effective in a narrative sense and made for a compelling, intense and twisted read from start to finish.

Huge thanks to Tracy Fenton of Compulsive Readers for having me on this Blogathon. My review is entirely my own honest opinion.
