Every story has a beginning . . .
They met for the first time in college. Two of the brightest minds ever to graduate from the prestigious Stanford University. They met again in Quantico, Virginia. Robert Hunter has become the head of the LAPD’s Ultra Violent Crimes Unit. Lucien Folter has become the most prolific and dangerous serial killer in FBI history.
The FBI caught Lucien. He’s been in prison for years. But Lucien has just escaped. And he’s angry. He’s going to make the person who put him away suffer.
That person . . . is Robert Hunter.
And every story must come to an end . . .
Review:
This is the first book in the Robert Hunter series that actually brings back a character and story from a previous instalment in the form of terrifying villain Lucien Folter. I was particularly excited to read this one as An Evil Mind, where we first encounter Lucien Folter, was one of my favourites of the series. Happily, I can confirm that bringing him back into play was a great decision and created a nerve-shredding and intense read from start to finish. Lucien blames Robert for putting him away and knows exactly how to get his attention in horrific ways which makes Hunting Evil a compelling sort of cat and mouse game between these two intelligent (and in Lucien’s case psychopathic) adversaries, and former friends. I also liked that Garcia, Hunter’s partner, played a big part in this one and the tense interplay of all the different agencies involved. Overall, Hunting Evil is another thrilling rollercoaster of a book in the series and a nicely done callback to the excellent An Evil Mind.
