Summary:

A nice house, a carefree life, a doting husband, a best friend who never leaves your side. What more could you ask for? There’s just one problem: your husband and best friend love you, but they hate each other.

Set over a single day, husband, wife and best friend Temi toe the lines of compromise and betrayal. Told in three parts, three people’s lives, and their visions of themselves and one another begin to slowly unravel, until a startling discovery throws everyone’s integrity into question.

Review:

I’ve seen The Three of Us advertised as being a good choice for readers of My Sister the Serial Killer (which I loved) so I was very excited to read it! Happily, I can confirm it was as good a read as I was hoping and I found it deliciously sharp and acerbic in a way I seriously enjoy in books like this. The narrative is contained to a single day and the reader is given three separate narrators to try to unravel: The Wife, The Husband and Temi, the wife’s best friend, who enjoys an entirely mutual dislike for the husband.

This is the sort of book that you can make your way through in a lazy afternoon with a glass of wine, enjoying the bitchiness, the drama and the satirical bite to the whole thing as a whole. I found it hugely fun to read and loved the structure. I do think the ending may be slightly divisive but I felt it worked perfectly for the tone of the book. Funny, razor sharp and revealing, I’d absolutely recommend The Three of Us.

❖ We were asked to pick a character to back – I think the husband is perhaps the popular choice but I think I’ll go #teamtemi because, whilst I don’t particularly like her, I kind of enjoy the chaos she brings!
