Top Ten Tuesday: The Last Ten Books That Gave Me A Book Hangover

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Hello! Time for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday and today we’re discussing books that have given us book hangovers. So I had a look through my recently read books and here are the last ten that made me feel bereft after finishing them because they were so good, starting with the most recent!

1. The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

This book is a slow burn that totally crept up on me and left me with a huge book hangover. It is gorgeously written and incredibly atmospheric. You can read my review here.

2. Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton

Three Hours is a book that will be staying in my mind for a very long time. It is heart-stoppingly tense and so beautifully written. If you haven’t yet read it I can only say please do, you won’t regret it. You can read my review here.

3. Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid

I really can’t praise this book enough! It is so smart, so witty and so completely relevant that I honestly can’t find any fault with it. Highly recommended and you can read my review here.

4. The Whisper Man by Alex North

I love a good psychological thriller and The Whisper Man is exactly that. I had to stop reading this at nighttime because I got so freaked out which is definitely a sign of how much this book gets under your skin.

5. Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Robotham

I hadn’t read any Michael Robotham books before but I saw this one on Netgalley and it intrigued me – I am so glad it did because it was a twisty and fast paced story and made me want to read plenty more from this author in the future. You can read my review here.

6. Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys

I found this subtle and heartbreaking read really special. There are a lot of excellent books about World War Two and I think Between Shades of Grey is up there with the best of them in terms of how it makes you appreciate the true human cost of war.

7. Educated by Tara Westover

I listened to the audiobook of Educated last year and I’m still thinking about it. It is such an honestly remarkable story that really needs to be heard/read to be believed. You can read my review here.

8. Furious Hours: Murder, Fraud and the Last Trial of Harper Lee by Casey Cep

This was one of my favourite books of 2019 and up there with my favourite ever nonfiction reads. If you have any interest in true crime or Harper Lee at all then I think you will also love Furious Hours! You can read my review here.

9. Before She Knew Him by Peter Swanson

I’ve read a few of Swanson’s books and enjoyed them but for some reason Before She Knew Him really sticks in my mind as one of his very best. It is dark and claustrophobic and brilliantly paced. You can read my review here.

10. The Glass Woman by Caroline Lea

For some reason I just love historical books set in Iceland and The Glass Woman is a perfect example of this! It is such an atmospheric read and perfectly conjures up an other worldly and eerie feeling that really makes a book special for me. You can read my review here.

Well that’s it – the ten last books to give me a book hangover! I would love to know what you think of my choices and what you thought of any of these books so please lets chat in the comments! I can’t wait to read all of your fantastic lists too!

The Whisper Man gave me a book hangover too. Not because it freaked me out, although it was good and spine-tingly, but because I just loved the father/son relationship SO MUCH, and the layers that were slowly pulled back on their family history and the ghosts/imaginary friends were just… *chef’s kiss*
